Teil 1 · Was das Unternehmen wert ist

Übersicht

NXP designs semiconductors that let machines sense, connect and make decisions — chips embedded inside cars, factory equipment, phones and payment terminals rather than sold to consumers directly. Like many chip designers it uses a mix of its own factories and external foundries to manufacture what it designs. Automotive is by far its largest market: NXP supplies chips that manage a car's battery, run its dashboard displays, and let it talk to other vehicles and infrastructure.

Wie das Geld verdient wird

NXP books revenue when a chip ships to a carmaker, an industrial equipment maker, or a distributor who resells to smaller customers — there is no subscription component. Its chips are typically designed into a specific car model or industrial product years before mass production starts, so a design win locks in years of predictable volume once the product launches, but also means today's revenue reflects decisions engineers made long ago rather than orders placed today.

Umsatz nach Segment

Automotive58%

Chips for battery management, infotainment, driver-assistance and vehicle-to-vehicle communication — by far the largest and the main growth driver.

Industrial & IoT18.5%

Chips for factory automation, smart metering and connected devices outside the automotive and mobile world.

Mobile12.9%

Chips for secure payments and device authentication embedded in smartphones and wearables.

Communication Infrastructure & Other10.6%

Chips for network base stations and other communications equipment, plus revenue that does not fit the other three markets.

Wettbewerbsvorteil

Wechselkosten · Schmal

A chip designed into a car model stays there for the years that model is in production, because re-qualifying a different supplier's part means retesting the whole electrical system. That gives NXP predictable revenue on won designs, but every new vehicle platform is a fresh competition against Infineon, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments, so the advantage resets with each product generation rather than compounding.

Was die Nachfrage antreibt

Zyklisch

Demand tracks global vehicle and industrial production, both of which swing with the broader economy, and the semiconductor industry has its own separate inventory cycle on top: customers overorder when chips are scarce and underorder to work down stock when supply catches up, amplifying swings that have nothing to do with how many cars are actually being driven.

Wichtigste Risiken

  • Cyclical semiconductor demand — Automotive and industrial chip demand swings with the broader economy and with customers' own inventory cycles, which have produced sharp order swings in the past.
  • Dependence on external and owned foundries — NXP relies partly on third-party foundries for manufacturing capacity; a shortage or disruption at a key supplier can delay shipments it cannot quickly make up elsewhere.
  • Long automotive design cycles cut both ways — Winning a design today does not generate revenue for years, and losing one means years without that customer; NXP cannot quickly adjust to a design loss once a vehicle platform is set.
  • Geopolitical and export exposure — A global manufacturing footprint and sales into China expose NXP to export controls, tariffs and trade tensions between the US, Europe and China that can change with little notice.

Kundenkonzentration

No single customer accounted for 10% or more of 2025 revenue, and NXP states its top 20 customers together made up less than 45% of revenue — a broad base by chip-industry standards.

Die Argumente dafür

Buyers argue that vehicles keep adding more chips per car as electrification and driver-assistance features spread, that NXP's broad, unconcentrated customer base cushions any single loss, and that automotive design wins provide years of visible, contracted-in-practice revenue once production starts.

Die Argumente dagegen

Sellers fear that a slowdown in global auto and industrial production hits NXP directly, that the semiconductor inventory cycle can turn an order backlog into a glut within a few quarters, and that trade restrictions between major economies could cut off a meaningful part of its manufacturing or sales base.
