Partie 1 · Ce que vaut l'entreprise

Vue d'ensemble

TotalEnergies is a French multi-energy company that finds and produces oil and natural gas, liquefies and ships gas as LNG, refines crude into fuels and petrochemicals, and increasingly builds and operates power plants and renewable energy assets. It sells across the full chain from wellhead to gas station and household electricity meter, in more than 100 countries, and has been shifting new investment toward gas and low-carbon power alongside its traditional oil business.

Comment l'entreprise gagne de l'argent

Revenue is organized in five businesses: Exploration & Production sells crude oil and gas at prices set by global commodity markets, Integrated LNG liquefies and sells gas under long-term contracts and spot cargoes (43.9 million tonnes sold in 2025), Integrated Power sells electricity from a growing renewables and gas-fired fleet (34.1 GW of renewable capacity), Refining & Chemicals turns crude into fuels and plastics, and Marketing & Services sells fuel and convenience products through service stations. Because oil and gas prices are set externally rather than by TotalEnergies, profit depends heavily on the cost of finding and producing each barrel relative to whatever the market happens to be paying.

Ce qui stimule la demande

Cyclique

Results move with global oil and gas prices, which swing with worldwide economic activity, OPEC+ production decisions and geopolitical events far outside the company's control. TotalEnergies itself lists price fluctuations in crude oil and natural gas, and the evolution of demand and prices for petroleum products, among the market risk factors that drive its results.

Principaux risques

  • Oil and gas price volatility — The company names price fluctuations in crude oil and natural gas, and the evolution of demand and price for petroleum products, as market risk factors directly affecting its results.
  • Geopolitical tensions and external threats — The 20-F risk factor section names geopolitics and external threats as a distinct risk category, noting that heightened geopolitical tensions are pushing different regions of the world down increasingly divergent paths that affect operations and markets.
  • Energy transition uncertainty — Energy transition is named as its own risk category; the company states that achieving ambitious climate scenarios currently seems out of reach given the state of geopolitical tensions, which affects the pace and profitability of its low-carbon investments.
  • Operational risk — The 20-F lists operational risks as a distinct category alongside market and geopolitical risk, covering the hazards inherent in exploring for, producing, transporting and refining hydrocarbons across a large global asset base.
