Partie 1 · Ce que vaut l'entreprise

Vue d'ensemble

ENN Energy distributes piped natural gas to households and businesses across 22 Chinese provinces, operating the local pipeline networks under long-term city gas concessions granted by Chinese municipalities. It also connects new buildings to those networks, sells gas wholesale to industrial users and other distributors, and increasingly supplies electricity, heating and cooling to industrial parks alongside its core gas business. It serves more than 32 million household customers and over 316,000 businesses.

Comment l'entreprise gagne de l'argent

Most revenue comes from selling gas by volume to metered customers at prices regulated within a band set by Chinese authorities, so profit depends on the spread between what ENN pays to source gas and the regulated retail price it can charge. A second, historically important stream is one-time connection fees charged when a new building joins the network, which has been shrinking as China's building boom slows; wholesale gas sales and integrated energy supply to industrial customers are growing in its place.

Ce qui stimule la demande

Défensif

Households and businesses need gas for heating and cooking regardless of the economic cycle, which makes core retail volumes fairly steady, but ENN's results are also shaped by Chinese government gas-pricing policy and by global LNG procurement costs, which the company manages through long-term supply contracts to reduce exposure to shortages and price spikes.

Principaux risques

  • Policy and price regulation — The company names policy and price among its principal risk categories: retail gas prices are set within bands regulated by Chinese authorities, which can compress margin if sourcing costs rise faster than allowed retail prices.
  • Gas sourcing and LNG price volatility — The company faces elevated risk in gas operations from global LNG shortages and high prices, and relies on long-term LNG and oil-major supply contracts to secure supply and manage cost exposure.
  • Health, safety and environment — Operating high-pressure gas pipelines and distribution networks across millions of connections carries inherent safety risk, which the company lists as one of its named principal risk categories.
  • Compliance and market risk — The company separately names compliance and market risk among its principal risk categories, reflecting its exposure to Chinese regulatory requirements and to commodity and financial market conditions.
