अवलोकन

Alarm.com Holdings is a Virginia-based software company that runs a cloud platform for what it calls 'intelligently connected properties'. Its software lets a home or a business be secured, monitored and automated from a phone app: interactive security systems, video cameras with video analytics, access control, energy management, water management, gunshot detection and personal safety. Alarm.com does not sell to homeowners directly. Its solutions are sold, installed and serviced by a network of independent licensed security and automation dealers — the 'service provider partners' — who take on the end customer relationship, while Alarm.com supplies the platform, the mobile apps and much of the hardware. The company reported that during 2025 its platforms processed more than 365 billion data points generated by over 170 million connected devices, and it derived substantially all of its revenue from North America. Total revenue was $1.0112 billion in fiscal 2025 and net income attributable to common stockholders was $132.6 million.

यह पैसा कैसे कमाती है

Two streams. The first and larger one is SaaS and license revenue: the service provider partners resell Alarm.com's services to their own customers and pay Alarm.com a monthly fee per subscriber. Contracts with the partners typically run one year with one-year renewals, while the partners tell Alarm.com that their own contracts with property owners typically run three to five years — so the monthly fee tends to repeat for years. This line includes fees for the non-hosted 'Software platform', which a provider runs in its own network operations centre, and licensing of Alarm.com's intellectual property to third parties on a per-customer basis. SaaS and license revenue was 68% of total revenue in 2025 (67% in 2024, 65% in 2023), of which software licence revenue alone was 2%. The second stream is hardware and other revenue — video cameras and recorders, cellular radio modules, smart thermostats, image sensors, gunshot detection sensors and other peripherals sold mostly to the same partners and to distributors, plus perpetual licences for commercial video surveillance software and licences for the gunshot detection solution. Hardware and other revenue was 32% of total revenue in 2025 (33% in 2024, 35% in 2023), and the company says it expects that share to fluctuate. The recurring base is sticky: the SaaS and license revenue renewal rate was 95% in 2025, 95% in 2024 and 94% in 2023.

Alarm.com91%

The core business: the cloud-based platform and the licences and services on the non-hosted Software platform for intelligently connected properties, sold through the service provider partner network to residential and commercial property owners, together with the hardware that enables those services. In fiscal 2025 the segment generated $919.7 million of revenue before intersegment eliminations, of which $605.3 million was SaaS and license revenue and $314.4 million hardware and other revenue, and it produced $141.7 million of operating income.

Other9%

The consolidated subsidiaries pursuing adjacent markets: residential and commercial automation solutions and energy management products and services. The company describes these businesses as being in the investment stage, with operating expenses large relative to their revenue. In fiscal 2025 the segment generated $95.7 million of revenue before intersegment eliminations and an operating loss of $8.2 million, and it grew from 237 to 290 employees during the year.

The strongest source of durability is how deeply the platform is embedded in the workflow of the dealers who sell it. A service provider partner does not merely resell Alarm.com: it uses the platform's tools to activate and manage customer accounts, order equipment, access invoices and run its own business metrics, and it trains its technicians through Alarm.com's programmes. Moving a book of subscribers to a rival platform would mean re-equipping installed properties and retraining staff, which is why the SaaS and license revenue renewal rate stayed at 95% in 2025. Two things keep this narrow rather than wide. First, contracts with the partners run only one year with one-year renewals, and in some cases a partner may terminate on 30 days' written notice — the switching cost is practical, not contractual. Second, the company competes against large technology companies, broadband providers and security service providers with greater resources, and the underlying dealer market is fragmented, so no single partner relationship is guaranteed. Alarm.com also holds hundreds of issued patents as of December 31, 2025, with 141 pending U.S. utility applications, which supports but does not by itself constitute the moat.

मांग को क्या चलाता है

मध्यम रूप से चक्रीय

The company is built on two halves that behave differently over the cycle. The recurring half — 68% of 2025 revenue — is the monthly per-subscriber fee, protected by three-to-five-year contracts between the dealers and property owners and by a 95% SaaS and license revenue renewal rate; once a property is equipped, the fee tends to keep arriving whatever the economy does, and monitored security is close to a household staple rather than a discretionary purchase. The other half — 32% hardware and other revenue — is tied to new installations, and new installations follow home building, home renovation and business investment. Alarm.com itself says that during weak economic times the pool of available service providers may decline as home building and renovation projects diminish, that consumer discretionary spending may fall, and that a prolonged slowdown with a material reduction in new construction may diminish sales. Layered on top is a seasonal pattern the company describes explicitly: sales are concentrated in the second and third quarters, the installation season. The net effect is a business that is more resilient than a pure hardware vendor but does not defend itself fully in a housing downturn.

प्रमुख जोखिम

  • A handful of service provider partners carry much of the revenue, and ADT alone is over 15% — The company discloses that its 10 largest revenue service provider partners or distributors accounted for 45% of revenue in 2025, 46% in 2024 and 50% in 2023, and that ADT represented greater than 15% but not more than 20% of revenue in each of 2023, 2024 and 2025. Substantially all of the revenue associated with the non-hosted Software platform comes from ADT alone. Some partner contracts allow termination on 30 days' written notice. Alarm.com states it cannot assure that ADT will keep using the Software platform or that revenue from ADT will reach historical levels, and that the loss of one or more key partners, or a reduction in sales through them, would reduce revenue and could impair profitability.
  • Growth depends on dealers Alarm.com does not control, and it barely sees the end consumer — New subscribers are acquired by the service provider partner network, not by Alarm.com. If those providers cannot attract new subscribers or retain their current ones, operating results suffer. The company also discloses that it has relatively limited visibility into the consumers who ultimately buy its solutions and often relies on information from third-party service providers to manage its business; it does not control or influence how its partners market the product. Churn is outside its hands for reasons such as a subscriber moving house or a small business dissolving, and the company says it may not be able to predict renewal trends accurately.
  • Highly competitive markets, including very large technology companies — The company states that the markets in which it participates are highly competitive and that many companies — large technology companies, broadband and security service providers and other managed service providers — are actively targeting home and business automation, security monitoring, video monitoring and energy management. Competitors may have greater name recognition, larger customer bases and significantly greater financial, technical, sales, marketing and distribution resources. Alarm.com also benefits from integrating with third-party platform providers; if those developers choose not to partner with it or are acquired by competitors, its integrated platform and results could be harmed.
  • It sells life-safety products, so a failure creates liability — Alarm.com discloses that it sells security and life safety solutions designed to protect subscribers and their homes or commercial properties, and that if these solutions fail for any reason it could be subject to liability, with damage to its business, reputation and results of operations. Alongside this, it lists the failure to maintain the security of its information and technology networks — including information about service provider partners, subscribers and employees — as a risk that could expose it to liability and adversely affect it.
  • Macroeconomic conditions, housing and consumer discretionary spending — The company states that inflation, new or increased tariffs, changes in GDP growth, financial and credit market fluctuations, energy costs, interest rates and the global housing and mortgage markets could cut consumer discretionary spending and business investment. In weak economic times the pool of available service providers may shrink as home building and renovation projects diminish, and a higher share of partners may file for bankruptcy protection. A prolonged slowdown and a material reduction in new home construction and renovation may mean diminished sales of its platforms and solutions.
  • Dependence on suppliers, tariffs and geopolitical disruption — Alarm.com discloses that it depends on its suppliers, and that the loss of any key supplier, or their inability to deliver products or components on time, with sufficient availability or at stable prices, would materially and adversely affect the business. It separately flags geopolitical conditions — trade disputes, new or increased tariffs, sanctions and import/export restrictions — as an adverse influence on operations and financial results, and notes that because sales are concentrated in the second and third quarters, any disruption to hardware vendors, partners or subscribers in those quarters would hit annual results harder.
  • Intellectual property claims and legal proceedings — The company lists among its principal risks that assertions by third parties that it is infringing their intellectual property subject it to costly and time-consuming litigation or expensive licences that could harm its business and results, and that it is involved from time to time in legal proceedings where a negative outcome could have a material adverse effect on its business, financial condition, cash flows and results of operations. It also flags the converse risk: failing to protect its own intellectual property.

ग्राहक Concentration

शीर्ष ग्राहकों का राजस्व में 45% हिस्सा है

Alarm.com's customers are the dealers, not the households. The 10 largest revenue service provider partners or distributors accounted for 45% of consolidated revenue in 2025, down from 46% in 2024 and 50% in 2023. One partner within the Alarm.com segment — identified in the filing as ADT LLC — individually represented greater than 15% but not more than 20% of revenue in each of 2025, 2024 and 2023, and substantially all of the revenue associated with the non-hosted Software platform comes from ADT. The company expects to remain dependent on a limited number of partners for a significant portion of revenue for the foreseeable future, and says the share attributable to individual partners may rise. On the receivables side the exposure looks lighter: no service provider partner represented more than 10% of accounts receivable as of December 31, 2025 or 2024. For context on the wider market, the company cites the Barnes Buchanan 2026 Security Alarm Industry Overview report as saying the top six dealers represented approximately 37% of all industry recurring monthly revenue in 2024, and describes its own partner mix as reflective of that fragmented industry.

खरीदने के पक्ष में तर्क

Buyers argue that the recurring engine is the whole point: SaaS and license revenue reached $689.4 million in 2025, 68% of total revenue, grew 9% over 2024, and renewed at 95% — subscribers stay for years because the dealer's own contract with the property owner runs three to five years and the platform is woven into how that dealer runs its business. They point out that Alarm.com does not pay to acquire subscribers itself: a network of independent licensed installers does the selling and installing, which the company describes as an efficient and scalable customer acquisition model that lets it spend on technology instead. They note that profitability improved while growth continued — operating income rose to $133.6 million in 2025 from $108.5 million in 2024, and non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA to $206.0 million from $176.2 million — and that research and development spending of $270.2 million keeps widening the product surface from residential security into commercial video, access control, energy management and gunshot detection. They also note the top-10 partner concentration has been falling, from 50% of revenue in 2023 to 45% in 2025, and that the balance sheet absorbed the $500.0 million repayment of the 2026 convertible notes in January 2026 with cash on hand and no share issuance.

बेचने के पक्ष में तर्क

Sellers fear the dependence on other people's sales forces. One customer, ADT, has been worth more than 15% but not more than 20% of revenue in each of the last three years and supplies substantially all of the non-hosted Software platform revenue, while the ten largest partners together account for 45%; the master agreement with ADT renews annually unless either side gives notice, and Alarm.com states plainly that it cannot assure ADT will keep new customers on its platform or that revenue from ADT will reach historical levels — if ADT migrates, what remains is a lower per-subscriber patent royalty. They fear the growth mix: total revenue grew 8% in 2025 while hardware and other revenue, a third of the business, is low-margin, tied to new installations and exposed to tariffs and supplier disruption, and the company itself warns that weak housing and renovation activity shrinks the installer pool that feeds new subscribers. They fear the competitive squeeze from large technology companies, broadband providers and security service providers with far greater resources attacking the same connected-property market, and the risk that third-party platform developers Alarm.com integrates with are acquired by those competitors. They also note that the Other segment, the adjacent-market bet on automation and energy management, is still described as being in the investment stage and lost $8.2 million at the operating line in 2025, and that selling life-safety products carries liability and cybersecurity exposure that a software multiple does not usually price.
