Parte 1 · Quanto vale a empresa
Visão Geral
Suntory Beverage & Food makes and sells non-alcoholic drinks and some food products under a portfolio of brands rather than one global name: Suntory Tennensui water and Boss coffee in Japan, Orangina and Lucozade in Europe, and Pepsi bottling and BRAND'S health drinks in parts of Asia. It is majority-owned by Japan's Suntory Holdings and sells in around 120 countries, with manufacturing spread across each region it serves rather than centralised in Japan.
Como gera receita
Revenue comes from selling packaged drinks — bottles, cans, cartons — through retailers, vending machines and food service, region by region. Because beverages are heavy and perishable relative to their price, bottling and distribution happen close to where products are sold, so each region largely funds its own plants and logistics. Profitability depends on brand strength letting the company charge a premium over private-label alternatives, and on raw material and packaging costs that move with commodity prices.
Receita por segmento
Mineral water, coffee, tea, carbonated and sports drinks sold domestically under the Suntory brand — the largest single market.
Soft drinks, energy drinks and health products across Vietnam, Thailand, Oceania and other Asian markets, including Pepsi bottling in some countries.
Orangina and Schweppes carbonated drinks, Oasis and Ribena juices, and Lucozade energy and sports drinks, sold mainly in France, the UK and Spain.
The group's smallest geographic segment, covering beverage sales across North and South America.
Vantagem competitiva
Marca · EstreitaSuntory Beverage & Food's portfolio includes well-established regional brands — Tennensui, Boss, Orangina, Lucozade — built over decades of advertising and shelf presence, which lets it charge more than unbranded alternatives in each market. The moat is narrow rather than wide because it competes region by region against equally entrenched local brands and global rivals like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, none of which it can dislodge everywhere at once.
O que impulsiona a procura
DefensivoNon-alcoholic drinks and everyday food items are habitual purchases that hold up better than discretionary categories during downturns. Volume can still soften when consumers trade down to cheaper brands, and currency swings across four regions add another layer of variability, but underlying demand for water, coffee and soft drinks does not disappear in a recession the way demand for durable goods can.
Os argumentos a favor
Buyers argue that a geographically diversified portfolio of strong regional beverage brands gives Suntory Beverage & Food pricing power and resilience that a single-market bottler lacks, and that its exposure to growing Asian markets offers upside beyond its mature Japanese base.
Os argumentos contra
Sellers fear that operating bottling and distribution separately in four regions keeps margins structurally thinner than a truly global platform, and that currency swings across those regions can erase local operating gains once results are translated back into yen.
