概要

Check Point sells the firewalls and related security software that sit at the edge of a company's network, inspecting traffic entering and leaving to block intrusions, malware and data theft. It was one of the pioneers of the corporate firewall in the 1990s and still sells physical security appliances, but has been extending its portfolio into cloud security, endpoint protection and email security to compete with newer, cloud-native rivals.

収益の仕組み

Revenue splits between selling hardware and perpetual software licences, ongoing security subscriptions that give customers access to updated threat protection, and software updates and maintenance contracts tied to the installed base. Subscriptions are the fastest-growing and most recurring part of the business, while hardware and one-time licence sales are lumpier and depend on new equipment refresh cycles.

セグメント別売上高

Security Subscriptions44.7%

Recurring subscriptions giving customers access to updated threat prevention across network, cloud, endpoint and email products.

Software Updates and Maintenance35.2%

Support contracts and software updates tied to the large base of security appliances and software already installed at customers.

Products and Licences20.1%

Security appliances and one-time software licences sold to new customers or as equipment refreshes for existing ones.

競争優位性(moat)

スイッチングコスト · 狭い

Once Check Point's firewalls and security policies are configured deep inside a company's network, replacing them means re-architecting security operations, which customers put off unless something forces the change. That stickiness is weakening rather than strengthening: Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and CrowdStrike have been taking share in newer categories like cloud and endpoint security, so the advantage today looks narrow.

需要を左右する要因

中程度の景気循環性

Cybersecurity spending is treated by most enterprises as close to non-discretionary, since a breach can be far costlier than the security budget itself, which cushions demand relative to general IT spending. Even so, the pace of new deals and equipment refreshes still tracks overall enterprise IT budgets and can slow when companies broadly tighten spending.

主なリスク

  • Losing share to newer security vendors — Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, CrowdStrike and Microsoft are all competing aggressively in cloud and endpoint security, categories where Check Point's legacy firewall position gives it less of an edge.
  • Transition toward subscription-based security — Growing security subscriptions faster than legacy hardware and licence revenue declines is an ongoing execution challenge, and a slower transition would weigh on overall growth.
  • Israel-based operations and geopolitical risk — A significant part of Check Point's research and development and management is based in Israel, exposing the company to regional political and military conditions that could disrupt operations.
  • Being targeted as a security vendor — As a maker of security products, Check Point is itself an attractive target for attackers; a breach of its own systems or a flaw discovered in its products would damage trust in a business built on protecting others.
  • Dependence on channel partners — Much of Check Point's sales go through resellers and distributors rather than a direct sales force, so its results depend on those partners continuing to prioritise its products over competitors'.

強気材料

Buyers argue that Check Point's security subscription revenue keeps growing at double-digit rates even as overall revenue growth is modest, that its large installed base of maintenance and support contracts provides a stable, high-margin recurring foundation, and that improving net margins show discipline as the mix shifts toward subscriptions.

弱気材料

Sellers worry that Check Point's core firewall franchise keeps losing relative ground to faster-growing rivals in cloud and endpoint security, that overall revenue growth well below the broader cybersecurity market suggests share loss rather than category strength, and that Israel-based operations add a geopolitical risk most competitors do not carry.

Sphera Dumps 15,000 Check Point Software Shares Worth $3.1 Million

Sphera, a prominent investment fund, recently divested 15,000 shares of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., totaling $3.1 million. This move, which sees a significant entity reduce its exposure to the cybersecurity giant, could be interpreted by investors as a cautionary signal. While Sphera's exact motivations remain undisclosed, the sale of such a substantial stake might suggest a revised outlook on the company's future prospects or a strategic capital reallocation. Market participants will closely monitor Check Point Software, a leader in integrated protection across networks, cloud, and endpoints, to ascertain if this divestment foreshadows a shift in overall sentiment.
