概要
Woodward designs and builds the control systems that manage how aircraft engines and large industrial equipment actually run: fuel systems, actuators and electronic controls that regulate thrust, pressure and timing. Its aerospace parts fly on commercial and military aircraft engines built by companies like GE and RTX; its industrial parts go into gas turbines, engines used in power generation, and equipment for oil and gas and transportation. Woodward supplies the component maker, not the end customer directly.
収益の仕組み
Woodward sells new equipment to engine and machinery makers at the time a platform is built, then earns a long tail of aftermarket revenue selling spare parts and repairs over the decades that platform stays in service. Aftermarket sales carry higher margins and recur regardless of new production rates, which cushions results when new aircraft or industrial-equipment build rates slow. Winning a spot on a new engine platform takes years of qualification, but once won it tends to last the platform's life.
セグメント別売上高
Fuel systems, actuators and controls for commercial and defense aircraft engines, Woodward's largest and fastest-growing segment in fiscal 2025.
Controls and components for power generation, oil and gas, and transportation equipment; net sales declined slightly in fiscal 2025 on lower transportation demand.
競争優位性(moat)
スイッチングコスト · 狭いOnce a Woodward component is qualified onto an aircraft engine or turbine platform, replacing it requires re-certifying the whole system with regulators and the engine maker, a process that can take years. That locks in decades of aftermarket sales for components already flying, but the advantage only exists where Woodward already won the design; new platforms are contested from scratch against competent rivals.
需要を左右する要因
景気循環型Aerospace revenue tracks how many commercial aircraft Boeing and Airbus are building and how much airlines are flying, both of which swing with air travel demand and aircraft-maker production rates. Industrial revenue follows capital spending in power generation, oil and gas and transportation, which rises and falls with energy prices and broader economic activity.
主なリスク
- Revenue concentrated among large OEM customers — The five largest customers made up about 36% of fiscal 2025 net sales. A shift in one large engine or equipment maker's production plans affects Woodward disproportionately.
- Supply chain and labor constraints — Woodward cites disruptions and constraints in the global supply chain and labor markets as a risk to its ability to deliver product on schedule and meet demand.
- Long sales and qualification cycles — Winning a position on a new aircraft engine or industrial platform takes a long qualification cycle; a lost bid means years without a chance to compete for that same revenue again.
- Aerospace market consolidation — Woodward flags consolidation among aerospace customers and competitors as a risk factor, since fewer, larger buyers can gain more negotiating leverage over suppliers like Woodward.
顧客集中度
主要顧客が売上高の36%を占める
Woodward's five largest customers accounted for about 36% of consolidated net sales in fiscal 2025, though the company states no single customer reached 10% of total sales that year.
強気材料
Buyers argue that record fiscal 2025 sales and double-digit Aerospace growth reflect a multi-year commercial aircraft build-out still ahead of it, that decades of locked-in aftermarket revenue on already-flying engines provide a stable earnings floor, and that Industrial's softer year masks improving power-generation and oil-and-gas demand underneath it.
弱気材料
Sellers worry that with five customers controlling over a third of sales, a single large buyer's production cut or in-house move would hit results hard, that Aerospace's growth depends on Boeing and Airbus sustaining their own build rates, and that Industrial's decline shows softness in transportation demand that could spread.
