概览
Avnet is a global distributor of electronic components: it buys semiconductors, connectors, passive and electromechanical parts and embedded systems from the manufacturers that make them, holds them in inventory, and resells them to the companies that build electronic products. Founded in 1921 and headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, it serves customers in more than 140 countries — from startups and mid-sized businesses to large original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), electronic manufacturing services (EMS) providers and original design manufacturers (ODMs) — with about 15,040 employees across 48 countries as of June 27, 2026. Around it Avnet layers services a pure reseller would not offer: engineering design support, bills of materials, programming, warehousing and logistics, and the assembly of embedded boards and systems. Fiscal 2026 (ended 27 June 2026) sales were $27.63 billion, up 24.5% on the previous year, and about 78% of those sales came from operations outside the United States.
盈利方式
Avnet earns revenue by reselling other companies' products at a mark-up: it recognises the full sale price of the components it ships and keeps the spread between what it pays suppliers and what it charges customers. That spread is thin — gross profit margin was 10.4% of sales in fiscal 2026 and operating margin 2.6% — so the model is a volume-and-working-capital business, where profit depends on turning a very large inventory quickly and on spreading fixed operating costs over more sales. Most products are bought under franchised distribution agreements, which typically give Avnet protection against product obsolescence and price erosion and rights to return inventory, but which are generally cancellable by either side on 30 to 180 days' notice. Value-added services — design support, programming, labelling, testing, assembly, supply-chain and materials management — are sold alongside the components and help defend the margin. Farnell sells the same kind of goods in small quantities, mostly through an e-commerce catalogue, at structurally higher margins: its operating margin was 5.9% in fiscal 2026 against 3.5% for Electronic Components.
分部营收
Distributes electronic components in high and medium volumes to OEMs, EMS providers and ODMs across industrial, automotive, defence and aerospace end markets, together with design support, supply-chain services and embedded and integrated systems. Within EC in fiscal 2026 about 83% of sales were semiconductors, about 15% interconnect, passive and electromechanical components and 2% computers and other products.
Sells small quantities of components, kits, tools, industrial automation parts and test and measurement equipment, mostly through an e-commerce channel, to engineers and entrepreneurs who need parts quickly to design, prototype and test products. Within Farnell in fiscal 2026 about 19% of sales were semiconductors, about 36% interconnect, passive and electromechanical components, about 13% single-board computers and about 32% other products and services.
护城河
规模效应 · 狭窄Avnet's own filing names its competitive strengths as the breadth and quality of its supplier line card — so many suppliers that a customer can make all or substantially all of its component purchases in one place — plus the inventory it must carry to meet delivery requirements and the value-added services layered on top. That is a scale advantage: the inventory, the global warehousing and logistics network and the engineering support are expensive to replicate and get cheaper per dollar shipped as volume grows. It is narrow rather than wide, and the filing shows why. Franchised distribution agreements are generally cancellable on 30 to 180 days' notice, so the line card is not owned; suppliers themselves sometimes sell direct; the company competes against Arrow Electronics, Future Electronics, World Peace Group and WT Microelectronics in components and Mouser, Digi-Key and RS Components at Farnell; and it states plainly that its pricing and product availability must remain competitive. A gross margin of 10.4% and an operating margin of 2.6% in fiscal 2026 are what a modest advantage in a price-competitive trade looks like.
需求驱动因素
周期性Avnet sits between component makers and the companies that build electronic products, so it feels the semiconductor cycle almost in full. Its own risk factors say the semiconductor industry experiences periodic fluctuations in product supply and demand, often associated with changes in economic conditions, technology and manufacturing capacity. The recent numbers show the swing: sales were $23.76 billion in fiscal 2024, fell to $22.20 billion in fiscal 2025, then rose 24.5% to $27.63 billion in fiscal 2026 as demand for electronic components strengthened across all regions. Operating income moved further than sales in both directions — $844 million in 2024, $514 million in 2025, $725 million in 2026 — because thin margins amplify volume swings. Demand comes from industrial, automotive, defence and aerospace end markets and from customers' own build rates, and the company adds a pricing element: fiscal 2026 growth came mainly from higher volumes and a mix of higher-priced components, with rising prices for certain memory-related products a smaller contributor. Seasonality is not material, beyond regional mix: the Americas and EMEA sell less in the first half of the fiscal year because of December holidays, and Asia less in the March quarter because of lunar new year.
主要风险
- Changes in customer needs and consumption models — Avnet states that changes in customer product demand and in how customers consume technology may cause a decline in billings, and that changes in technology such as artificial intelligence could reduce the types or quantity of services customers require. It adds that the semiconductor industry experiences periodic fluctuations in product supply and demand, often tied to economic conditions, technology and manufacturing capacity, and that suppliers may fail to predict or meet customer demand.
- Disruptions to key supplier and customer relationships — For fiscal 2026 one supplier accounted for over 10% of consolidated billings. Supplier contracts vary in duration and are generally terminable by either party on short notice. Product shortages or the loss of a supplier can damage relationships with customers who depend on timely delivery, and if key suppliers change contract terms — price protection, rights of return, order cancellation rights, delivery commitments or rebates — Avnet's gross margins and results could suffer.
- International operations, tariffs and trade policy — About 78% of fiscal 2026 sales came from operations outside the United States, exposing Avnet to currency and interest-rate swings, restrictions on repatriating funds, complex and changing tax laws, economic and political instability, freight-cost fluctuations, natural disasters and pandemics, and local-law compliance. The company also flags tariffs and trade restrictions: it notes that in February 2026 the U.S. Supreme Court struck down tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, that the global tariff landscape keeps shifting, and that it cannot reasonably estimate the financial impact of potential refunds.
- Inventory value decline — The electronic components and integrated products industries are subject to technological change, new products, shifting customer needs and changing industry standards and regulations, all of which can make Avnet's inventory decline in value or become obsolete — a direct hit for a business whose model requires carrying a large stock of parts.
- Accounts receivable defaults — Receivables are a significant part of Avnet's working capital. If customers responsible for a large amount of receivables stop trading, take their business elsewhere, fail to pay or pay late, the business, results, financial condition or liquidity could be materially affected.
- Liquidity, debt and financing covenants — Avnet's ability to meet its cash needs depends on generating cash from operations and on access to financial markets, both subject to factors beyond its control. At 27 June 2026 it had debt outstanding under notes, secured borrowings and committed and uncommitted credit lines, and needs cash for principal, interest and working capital. Its financing agreements restrict management's discretion — limiting liens, restricted payments including dividends and buybacks, certain investments, mergers or asset transfers, additional debt, and affiliate transactions.
- Competition — Avnet describes its market as very competitive and subject to technological advances including artificial intelligence, new and non-traditional competitors and changing industry standards. It competes with global and regional distributors and with some of its own suppliers that maintain direct sales efforts, and notes that some competitors have greater resources or a wider customer or supplier base in particular sectors and geographies, so it may not be able to compete effectively in every market.
- Data security, privacy threats and information systems failures — Attacks on Avnet's data and IT systems, including phishing and ransomware and increasingly aided by artificial intelligence, are becoming more frequent and sophisticated, and the company states that threat actors have successfully breached its systems. Separately, its global operations run on multiple information systems, including those inherited from acquisitions, and with online sales growing, interruptions or slow response can make its websites and services less attractive to customers.
客户集中度
The fiscal 2026 10-K does not disclose the share of sales taken by Avnet's largest customer or by its top customers, and gives no percentage for customer concentration. What it does say is that credit risk is spread: the company performs ongoing credit evaluations, sometimes buys credit insurance, and has not historically experienced material losses related to individual customers or to groups of customers in any particular end market or geographic area. Concentration in this business sits on the supply side rather than the demand side — one supplier accounted for over 10% of consolidated billings in fiscal 2026 and approximately 10% in fiscal 2025 and 2024.
看多理由
Buyers argue that fiscal 2026 shows the cycle turning in Avnet's favour: sales grew 24.5% to $27.63 billion with growth in all three Electronic Components regions and at Farnell, and 22.4% in constant currency, so the growth is real demand rather than a currency effect. They point to operating leverage — operating income rose 40.9% to $725 million and adjusted operating income 38.0% to $861 million on a 24.5% sales increase, with adjusted operating margin up 31 basis points to 3.1% — which is what a thin-margin distributor is supposed to do when volumes recover. Farnell, the small high-margin business, is the part they watch most: its sales rose 23.2% and its operating income 221.7%, lifting its operating margin by 366 basis points to 5.9%, so a return to form there adds profit out of proportion to its 6.4% share of group sales. They also argue the model itself has value: manufacturers need someone to hold inventory and reach thousands of small and mid-sized customers they cannot serve directly, Avnet's breadth of line card lets a customer buy nearly everything in one place, and the design, programming and supply-chain services make it harder to replace than a pure reseller. Management guided to first-quarter fiscal 2027 sales roughly 10% above the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, with growth expected across all Electronic Components regions and Farnell.
看空理由
Sellers fear that the economics stay thin whatever the cycle does. Gross profit margin actually fell in fiscal 2026, from 10.7% to 10.4%, even as sales rose a quarter, and operating margin was 2.6%: a distributor keeps only a few cents on each dollar it ships, so a small slip in pricing or a small rise in operating costs swings the profit hard. Interest and other financing expenses of $251 million in fiscal 2026 consumed a substantial share of the $725 million of operating income, and the company's own risk factors describe debt outstanding under notes, secured borrowings and credit lines plus covenants that restrict liens, dividends, buybacks, investments and additional debt. They point to the direction of travel: sales fell from $23.76 billion in fiscal 2024 to $22.20 billion in fiscal 2025 before rebounding, and restructuring, integration and other expenses of $135 million in fiscal 2026 followed $108 million in 2025 — recurring costs in a business that keeps resizing. They note the supply-side dependence, with one supplier above 10% of consolidated billings and franchised distribution agreements cancellable on 30 to 180 days' notice, and the strategic worry that suppliers can sell direct or change the price-protection and return terms that hold the margin together. Add the working-capital exposure — inventory that can become obsolete and receivables that are a significant part of working capital — competition from Arrow, Future Electronics, World Peace Group, WT Microelectronics, Mouser, Digi-Key and RS Components, 78% of sales outside the United States in a shifting tariff and currency environment, and an effective tax rate that jumped from 4.1% to 28.5%.

Arrow is the other global broad-line distributor of semiconductors and electronic components, selling the same suppliers' product lines to the same industrial, automotive and data-centre manufacturers in the Americas, EMEA and Asia.
After absorbing Future Electronics, WT distributes the same semiconductor lines to the same volume manufacturers, making it Avnet's main rival in Asia and increasingly in North America and Europe.
World Peace Group is the largest component distributor in Greater China, competing with Avnet for the same design wins and supply contracts with Asian electronics manufacturers.
Mouser sells small quantities of components online to engineers and prototyping labs, exactly the customers Avnet serves through its Farnell business.
DigiKey is the other large catalogue and e-commerce distributor of components, competing directly with Farnell on breadth of stock and same-day shipping of small orders.
RS Group, through RS Components and Allied Electronics, serves the same European and North American engineers and maintenance buyers that Farnell targets with small-quantity electronic and industrial products.
